A Newbie’s Guide to Facebook

Facebook is known as the most powerful social media platform, thanks to Zuckerberg’s brains, he created an engaging platform that sets it apart from the rest. Facebook has come a long way, from settling with a personal vibe and offering engaging content and solutions to every wannabe Facebook magistrate. So here’s a guide for every Newbie to keep them up on their toes.


Signing Up for a Facebook Account.

Go to Facebook’s website. Fill out the needed information and then, press “Sign Up”.


Setting-Up the Not-so-Private Setting Up Privacy Settings.

After signing up, know that you can control your privacy settings. Check who can see your profile and posts. How? Click on the downward arrow located at the uppermost right of the Facebook Page. Click, settings, and press Privacy options. You can control who can see your previous and future posts too.


Personalize your Profile

You’ll probably find the same person with the same name as you. So to set you apart, add a profile picture, cover photo, and other information that makes you stand out from the rest.


Picking a Profile Picture

Go to your profile and click on the Profile picture. Choose a photo you have previously tagged in or uploaded previously. You can also upload a new photo depending on your liking.


Choosing a Cover Photo

Click the camera button located on your cover photo through your Facebook Profile. You can also pick from Facebook’s tagged photos, make a collage, or upload a photo from your computer, as well as, reposition or delete your current cover photo.



Update your Profile

Click the “About” section on your Profile Page. Fill up the needed information such as schools attended, home and work addresses, and relationship status.

Link and Follow Pages set to Public

Get updates from your favorite celebrities, brands, or organizations. Search and discover them through Facebook then like and follow their pages with a blue checkmark on their page name. After doing so, you’ll see their updates in your news feed.




Your Timeline

A timeline is a digital log of your Facebook activity. Status updates, photos, and videos are set in reverse chronological order - from current to past.


Adding Friends

You can find friends through the search tab of Facebook. Even friend suggestions, do come by easily. Just watch out for photos appearing in your news feeds for friend suggestions and boxed profiles.


Posting

Need to connect with a friend or loved one even if you’re distance or miles away. There’s no reason not to connect, With Facebook, distance is made a little closer. You can even play with 15 different backgrounds that suit your tastes. You can also put in what you’re feeling, check in your location, and tag friends if you like. You can ask a poll, support a non-profit, answer a question, make a list, and put up Facebook Stories.


Uploading Photos or Videos

To upload photos and videos, try these steps: Go to your profile, Press on the “Photos” tab, Create “Album” then Upload photos or videos from your computer’s saved photos or phone’s gallery.


Doing Facebook Live

In the box that asks, “What’s on your mind?” press “Live Video”. Once, you’ve pressed “Live Video”, fill up the description, tag people, add some feeling or activity, check in to an event, support a non-profit, add a poll, or stream a game if you’re a gamer. Then, “Go Live” when you’ve filled up the description for your live broadcast.


Like, Comment, or Share to Interact

You can like through a thumbs-up sign, a heart, or just about through any sign. You can comment on your response to a post or you can share or even share a post.


Chat with Facebook Messenger

To chat with your friends and family or even pages, click the “Messenger” button on the top right of the Facebook page or the “Messages” button on the left sidebar of the home page. You can upload photos, videos, and files from your computer. You can post GIFs, stickers, and emojis, or take pictures or videos from your computer or phone’s camera.


Throw an Event

The Events Page can show you any upcoming events by friends or organizations you belong to. You can find them through date, location, and category. You can even make your event with certain descriptions for you to put on. Set a date, time, and location. You can even do it online on Facebook Live.


Updates on Groups

The Groups page will show you which groups you belong to. You can even search for groups in connection with your interests and be ready to join these groups.


Facebook Watch

This Video streaming feature is where you watch videos or shows of the pages or people you’re following.


Facebook, surely, is a one-stop app platform that brings out the best of the technological world. With Zuckerberg’s continuing inventions, they do make the world a better place - closer to connecting despite the barriers of time and distance. Improvements are not far off from interfaces to privacy settings. Facebook is the most dynamic platform.
